Honorarium sculpture for Burning Man 2017. Concept by Eric Coolidge, Hannah MacDonald, and Eric Whitney. The idea was to create a reliquary-like tomb inspired by gothic cathedrals and crystalline shapes as if from an alien ancient world. The tomb was to be integrated with the skeletal remains of a conquered great serpentine beast whose ribcage became a secondary chamber. The tomb’s walls were lined with a secret language for spectators to decipher to unlock the heart of the sculpture hidden inside the serpent’s jaws.
